Orange LeadYou have decided to do SEO (search engine optimization) to garnish leads for your home based business or business opportunity. You have already established what keywords (word phrases) you will be pursuing and you have already established a domain name(s).

Maybe you have been doing SEO for quite some time and feel the need to go in a different direction.

Let me give you something to think about while you are determining what keyword phrase(s) you will be going for.

If you do not know already, keyword phrases in the industry are referred to as long tail keywords and short tail keywords with the “tail” referring to the length of the specific keyword phrase.

When you are researching keywords, typically, you would probably use a keyword suggestion tool which would analyze and show all other related keyword phrases (tails) of your main keyword phrase. They usually show the amount of visits each day for each “tail” as well as the amount of web sites you will be competing with.

This usually would give you a good indication of what word terms to go after.

Think about this though.

What long tail keyword search term is more “applicable” to your web site? Which search phrase would people use to search “specifically” for what you have to offer?

Maybe you are selling new books. Maybe you deal specifically in childrens books. Maybe you deal specifically with childrens books written by a particular author.

Although you have other offerings as well, you generate more profit from selling those specific books and your internet business is built around them.

You are competing against 1 million other web sites for a chance to get a piece of 80 visitors a day using a shorter tail keyword phrase.

Now you have a long tail keyword phrase that would bring in a much lesser amount of traffic. Yet this long tail is more highly targeted in respect to the visitors you want coming to your site. Maybe that long tail contains the authors name.

I would suggest this. You are still competing against 1 million web sites but you select the second option.

Why? Because they are more apt to purchase from you! They are “specifically” looking for what you are offering.

You have to play with this a little. What I am trying to get across is that often, you do “not” want to go for larger numbers. You want to generate the highest quality of business opportunity leads you can achieve for your home based business. You want people searching “specifically” for what you have to offer!

Know that usually you still have your main keywords within the long tail keyword phrases. That means you are working on your main keywords indirectly as well!
